Candidates are required to take part in an intensive, highly structured training program consisting of written and oral coursework that includes weekly, interactive sessions with the professor/ practitioner. The certification process includes weekly written assignments, completion of a six-week practicum and development of specialized treatment plans for clients.

Developed by the Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) of the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), curriculum is based in the latest evidence and clinical practice guidelines on behavioral health management developed by the DOD and Veterans Affairs (VA) for treating conditions such as PTSD, TBI, addiction and depression. Includes study on military culture and the impact of war on behavioral health toward providing more effective care for service members and military families.
